Infusing Vodka

Our friend, Ivee, mentioned at our last book club meeting that she had been wanting to host a homemade infused vodka party.  However since it takes a few weeks, planning in advance was key.  So being the fun group we are, we all decided to get started; Adam of course was on board.

I stopped off at Ikea to get some seal tight jars/bottles and he stopped off at Total Wine for some 100 proof vodka.  Then with ideas in mind we headed to Publix to get our “flavor”.

I decided on two kinds-Coffee and Pear.  (I’ve had pear before in NYC and Love love it!)  Adam went a little more exotic.  He’s trying Banana Coconut and….Pepper-Bacon! (think bloody Mary’s) Unfortunately I will not be able to try this last kind as jalapeno's and I do not mesh well.

So if you’re up to the challenge-here’s what you do:

Use 100 proof Vodka-Smirnoff or better.

Sterilize a glass container that you can seal air tight.

Choose your Flavor and cut it up (the more surface area the better).

Use 1 part of your “flavor” and 3 parts vodka.

Leave sealed in a cool place out of direct sunlight for 2-3 weeks.  The longer it seeps the more infused it gets.IMG_0087

As of this morning my beans had already begun to fall to the bottom and Adams bananas were still nice and white.  Batch number two will be made shortly.  We’ll let you know how it turns out in a month or so!
