That doesn’t mean that we’re not all struggling and juggling in the morning to get out the door though.</p> <p>A few weeks back my friend shared an article with me about the editor of Harper Bazar (a major fashion magazine) who wears the same thing to work everyday. Fireworks went off in my brain.  Oh my how much simpler and easy my morning would be if I didn’t have to think about what I should wear to work!  “I’m doing this” I told my friend. So I started looking for a “uniform”.</p> <p>I work in an architectural office and we get “casual” Fridays, but day to day dress isn’t business professional, business casual is fine. However working with designers you see a lot of “Style”.  I have always been what you would classify as “Classic Preppy” I shopped JCrew before it became mainstream, I fell in love with Lands End a few years back.  Jeans and a white shirt is my go to.  But I can’t wear that everyday so I turned to Lands End and sure enough they actually had a “uniform” section in their women's department.  Another reason I LOVE L.E., they have Tall sizes. </p> <p>I found a shirt that came in 4 colors, could be warn tucked in or out, came in TALL, was machine washable/no iron and was pumping/nursing friendly.  As for pants I have LOVED Macy’s Style&Co. brand for years. They are easy care (no iron), inexpensive (less then $30 a pair) and super comfy  (elastic waist & tummy panel). I found 4 different styles, all in black.  I have two black work skirts and a few styles of black and gray shoes so I was set there.</p> <p>With all my pieces in place I headed to work a few weeks ago in my new uniform and haven’t looked back since. Side note: I also removed all of my other clothes from my closet and will bring them back in as I wear them. Getting dressed in the morning is a no brainer and I actually have time to think about accessories, which I never did before. The outfits are comfortable and look appropriate for work.  </p> <p>Whether or not anyone in the office has noticed I’m basically wearing the same thing everyday I’m not sure, no one has said anything. But that’s what I wanted.  I tried to find a “uniform” that didn’t really draw attention to itself and kept it simple, I just wanted it to blend in.</p> <p>So what does it look like? Here are the first two weeks in my uniform.  Side note, I think selfies are stupid and narcissistic, so I did my best to make them as ridiculous as possible while still showing off the “uniform” for journalist purposes. Also, we don’t have a full length mirror in the new house yet, so I took all the photos in the work bathroom before I pumped, so I have giant boobs. (TMI??? sorry, get over it)</p> <p>Day 1: 2/25</p> <p><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jbLGHyb1jj0/VuHGoMrNxlI/AAAAAAAAKs0/FHm_Ed84obc/s1600-h/IMG_2470%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_2470" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_2470" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-OSOT7WPBNv8/VuHGqQz0QNI/AAAAAAAAKs4/UYg_X_QgcY4/IMG_2470_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a>Day 2: 2/29<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-v1QaCWOITFQ/VuHIE_rZgaI/AAAAAAAAKt8/nwyCDfmGTs0/s1600-h/IMG_2468%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_2468" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_2468" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-L8GDlv7TYLg/VuHIFmxL_uI/AAAAAAAAKuA/vUF3e42Hunw/IMG_2468_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>Day 3: 3/1<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-C4v6pa0VDk8/VuHIGda3dAI/AAAAAAAAKuE/H5m_3uz-sjs/s1600-h/IMG_2469%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_2469" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_2469" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uaii_uAYGlI/VuHIHD44oiI/AAAAAAAAKuI/yjb_mV6CAF8/IMG_2469_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a>Day 4: 3/2<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6r2PBTUrcsA/VuHIH7lpPwI/AAAAAAAAKuM/BPYYKVcp8W0/s1600-h/IMG_2479%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_2479" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_2479" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7CuuqXG6F5k/VuHIIsXWxHI/AAAAAAAAKuQ/Utm9er2dspY/IMG_2479_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a>Day 5: 3/3<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CdDaLQU-mDE/VuHIKr3X0DI/AAAAAAAAKuU/lNi4DQN9f9M/s1600-h/IMG_2480%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_2480" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_2480" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-1tf9gyR7qXs/VuHILBzhWvI/AAAAAAAAKuY/HpRese8CaJA/IMG_2480_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a>Day 6: 3/7<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hIdpNWJCGXI/VuHILxxB6eI/AAAAAAAAKuc/ttvGWVPQde0/s1600-h/IMG_2523%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_2523" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_2523" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vTA4H6Bvd08/VuHIMiyvukI/AAAAAAAAKug/N5S07Z3jNoM/IMG_2523_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a>Day 7: 3/6<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-RQyoEfR8Gkw/VuHINT584NI/AAAAAAAAKuk/tmZPw1WKePg/s1600-h/IMG_2545%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_2545" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_2545" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Mmq8hvhtTzw/VuHIOCilf7I/AAAAAAAAKuo/pjCoS96c5AI/IMG_2545_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a>Day 8: 3/9<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Gp3D85z3SEA/VuHIPMPCGTI/AAAAAAAAKus/HGnD22-qfBI/s1600-h/IMG_2546%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_2546" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_2546" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-TQtmHQgreBc/VuHISe9ZZWI/AAAAAAAAKuw/xCFAbjq7S90/IMG_2546_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a>Day 9: 3/10<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-czpJsg9eGAA/VuHITanbqRI/AAAAAAAAKu0/S4jgz75xqB8/s1600-h/IMG_2553%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_2553" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_2553" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2bdsR0ic83Q/VuHIUEnoSmI/AAAAAAAAKu4/67rh8u0zQsk/IMG_2553_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>So what do you think? not bad right? I think I look professional and put together. I can mix and match the pants/skirts with each top and add scarfs, cardigans and different shoes to mix up my look. So far I’m loving getting dressed in the morning.  I have more time to snuggle my babies and I am getting out the door on time. </p> <p>My goal this year is to Simplify my life. <br />
We had our little boy October 19 and it's been a whirlwind ever since. Moving into the new house, having a baby, hosting guests and going back to work has consumed my time. But here's a short recap to let you know we're alive, well and happy!<br />
Jude came into this world via c-section shortly after lunch (no lunch for me!) Monday October 19, 2015.<br />

Big sister wanted to hold him right away!<br />

<br />
He finally got a name on day two. Gerard is after my father. Jude was on our short list.<br />

He is a great baby(not sleeping though the night yet!) he rarely fusses and is always so smiley. He stared at daycare this week and everyone had fallen in love with him there.<br />

We ended up staying in the Temple Terrace area after much thought and consideration. We always wanted to move to St. Pete, but after weighing everything; this was the best place for us.<br />
1. It’s close to our work (15-20 min commute) with Adams late hours we just didn’t want him having to drive 45 min at 3 am.<br />
2. We LOVE our daycare. We struck gold with Ms. Jones. not only is she affordable, but she’s wonderful with Charlie, we trust her and Charlie has learned so much from her. We couldn’t stand the thought of moving her.<br />
3. Church/Schools We like our church and that there is an elementary school at it. And if school time comes and we can’t afford catholic school there is a public elementary school right next door.<br />
4. House prices. While we didn’t get the big house on the big lot we hoped (it sold 1 month before we sold) the houses here are considerably less $ and larger than those in St. Pete. <br />
So that’s basically why we decided to stay put after years of saying we’re moving across the bridge. Now the house… I know you’re all dying to see the house! We have BIG plans for the future and little plans sooner and now some unexpected repairs sooner than later-but don’t get me started on that!<br />
Our new little home was listed as a 3/2 1560 SF Florida Ranch. Here is the current layout of the house. (click photo to enlarge)<br />
<a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-f70zPbfLJT0/Vg1FlnTMQxI/AAAAAAAAKe0/uapveIHoLlY/s1600-h/original%252520houe%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img alt="original houe" border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-HAk1hjWyp88/Vg1FmT0zrsI/AAAAAAAAKe8/pqNNWY9MjEQ/original%252520houe_thumb%25255B10%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" height="279" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="original houe" width="404" /></a><br />
There are some funky features, but the previous owners, who had owned it sine 1968, one was in a wheel chair so it was adapted for that.<br />
This is the south side of the house. I would like to update the color at some point.<a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-WCuASOrpB5Y/Vg1Fm0g3hWI/AAAAAAAAKfE/Af0Ihxjbr4s/s1600-h/ISd4s4e6f4f9sn0000000000%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="ISd4s4e6f4f9sn0000000000" border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-WpaYpwGcfa0/Vg1FnjGh7YI/AAAAAAAAKfM/Bt-3eVRXOTE/ISd4s4e6f4f9sn0000000000_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" height="267" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="ISd4s4e6f4f9sn0000000000" width="404" /></a><br />

Kelly and Kym our realtors; Jane, John and Dawn our mortgage brokers; the title companies that came to our house for BOTH closings and of course those who helped with the big move! A condo close to USF. My dad said it would be a good investment. I felt like such a grown up. But now, 13 years later, I have a family with one more on the way and NEED to sell it so that we can get into a bigger space. </p> <p>So if you know anyone looking to relax in sunny Florida PLEASE pass on this listing to them. It’s close to the city and all that it offers, but located on the river at the end of a road so it’s quiet. So quiet that some nights I hear the frogs! </p> <p><a title="http://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sale/2101584870_zpid/1_pnd/28.048651%2c-82.369266%2c27.97477%2c-82.480846_rect/13_zm/1_fr/?view=map" href="http://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sale/2101584870_zpid/1_pnd/28.048651%2c-82.369266%2c27.97477%2c-82.480846_rect/13_zm/1_fr/?view=map">http://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sale/2101584870_zpid/1_pnd/28.048651%2c-82.369266%2c27.97477%2c-82.480846_rect/13_zm/1_fr/?view=map</a></p> <p>And here are some extra pictures that I took to wet your appetite. </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-xb7ADoAKjuE/VbZsg7x7fWI/AAAAAAAAKZE/9aF_-a8ugZY/s1600-h/IMG_034414.jpg"><img title="IMG_0344" style="border-left-width: 0px; I am shocked.<br />
<div>
Beyond shocked. Floored. amazed completely and utterly surprised.</div>
<div>
I am pregnant.</div>
<div>
when my period didn't come the day it was supposed to, or the next day or the next I finally took a test. I had spotting earlier in the week, once, so i thought "that's it, I'm not pregnant" And just started the waiting game.</div>
<div>
Well i am. When i went back into the bathroom after the 3 min and saw that second line i burst into tears. I honestly couldn't believe it. I really didn't think i'd get pregnant again, and i was OK with it. I was shaking i was so surprised. I told charlie and when i asked her what was in mommy's belly she said a baby.</div>
<div>
When Adam got home from work an hour or so later i told him. He looked a little confused as he crawled into bed. It wasn't the reaction i was expecting since he didn't feel good, but he's excited and happy.</div>
<div>
I actually told Tara first because i was so freaked out and Adam didn't answer his phone. she's excited. Heck i'm excited. I'm nervous, scared, but i'm definitely excited.</div>
<div>
I love Charlie so much, and i think the thing that worries me the most is how i can spread that love. but i'm sure i'll be able to do it. :)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Right now i'm feeling good. Gassy and bit crampy my breasts feel heavy but that's it. Oh and i'm tired, but i'm always tired. Also i'm super hungry all the time and i can smell anything from a mile away.</div>
<div>
Lets hope these next 4 weeks go smoothly.<br />
2/25/15<br />
At work today i'm feeling a twinge queesy. almost like i have nerves.<br />
but i am still very very apprehensive about this pregnancy. i think it's because of the spotting i had a week ago...Adam said call your dr. if you're worried. But you know, what is my Dr. going to be able to do... So as of now i'm just holding tight and hoping all goes well! i will call my dr. soon to schedule the apt...but i'm still just not convinced this is the real deal...<br />
<br />
3/9/15<br />
6 weeks and the queasiness is kicking in. Nothing bed binding, but it's annoying non the less. like i <i>could</i> be sick at any min. This whole thing is still so surreal. I go see the dr. tomorrow. Adam has a meeting so I'm going solo. So different this time around. But new job and new responsibilities i guess. It still really hasn't sunk in and when i do start to think seriously about it and having another child it does kind of freak me out. But i know we'll adjust and do fine and love # 2 just as much as we do our Charlie girl. The dr. office called to let me know they got the first round of blood tests back and it was high with the HCG levels...so i'm def pregnant. I've told Stephanie, Felicia, Tara and accidentally Alyssa and Leah-and possibly Josh. oops. My parents are visiting...so i think i may tell them after i see the dr...but we'll see. I'm just wishy washy about this whole thing. I guess after i see the little bugger it will get real really fast :)<br />
<br />
3/27/15<br />
8.5 weeks. So after being drop dead tired and queezy all day long i woke up this week feeling completely normal. It didn't even hurt when i took off my bra. So of course I worry that something is array. I really really don't think i will be ok/comfortable with all this until after our next appointment at 10 weeks. The first dr. apt confirmed my pregnancy and put me a few days ahead of where we calculated. We will stay with the Nov 1 due date however. I did take another test this week, Stephanie said to do it to help me feel better. But i just think back to my first pregnancy where i didn't know for 3 weeks that i had miscarried! I didn't even have any signs other than the little bit of blood on the TP.<br />
So as happy as we'll be to have another child I just can't get excited until i'm a little further along. I still don't believe it. Especially when I'm feeling this normal!<br />
We did tell my parents when they were down here and they are so excited, but under strict orders to keep mum! Joseph and Jen know as do Jimmy and Monica. We will tell Adam's dad after our apt on the 8th. Then I guess we'll see if we let the cat out of the bag.<br />
<br />
5/2015<br />
17.5 weeks. This pregnancy has been super easy. Like I said before after 8 weeks I've felt fine. But since then we've gotten to see our little bugger on the big screen (and he measured way bigger!) Yes, I said HE. It's a boy. Nuts, crazy and so lucky that we will get one of each. My due date is now moved to the 26th of October, so baby will come around the 20th. So far all is well and progressing smoothly. Fingers crossed it continues this way for the next 22 weeks. The name game has begun and I think it will be a long drawn out game...kind of like these NHL playoffs! ha ha ha<br />

We have continued to make pie, but I’ve been lacking the enthusiasm in this whole pie project. Maybe it’s because the holidays are coming up. The next 4 weeks have a lot for us: thanksgiving, Charlie's bday, my bday and Christmas. So I’m a little distracted.</p> <p>But on week 18 Adam found himself in the chapter that held both Pumpkin and Pecan pie. So he decided to make both. Yep, he made two pies in one week. <a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-4V8YLC5zEWg/VHS0RCzlcHI/AAAAAAAAKOY/-l0e1JUorIk/s1600-h/hr_0840_534_043__0840534043009%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="hr_0840_534_043__0840534043009" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="hr_0840_534_043__0840534043009" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-VxOyKLgONCA/VHS0RbW4WDI/AAAAAAAAKOc/OQbhZMZ-LlY/hr_0840_534_043__0840534043009_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a>The pecan pie was so good our daycare provider asked if he’d make her one for her thanksgiving dinner. The pumpkin pie was also good, but I’m not a huge pumpkin pie fan so I’m not a good judge. Adam said it was good. Tomorrow he’ll be making more pecan pies. <a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-GXq9cd-gL60/VHS0R18wOqI/AAAAAAAAKOo/XWHtzBMRaP4/s1600-h/hr_0840_534_562__0840534562009%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="hr_0840_534_562__0840534562009" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="hr_0840_534_562__0840534562009" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-elnx1dguoHc/VHS0SQkvnEI/AAAAAAAAKOs/AxA2Yfkrasg/hr_0840_534_562__0840534562009_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a>Last week I was on refrigerator pies and since Publix had a sale on fresh raspberries I chose Raspberry Chiffon pie. <a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-kZ4yFU_tfDI/VHS0SqyhLGI/AAAAAAAAKO4/dfCU7pFcZxg/s1600-h/IMG_2055%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_2055" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_2055" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-pFOai_0AiAg/VHS0TFjdv8I/AAAAAAAAKO8/qpf3ZuircQQ/IMG_2055_thumb%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="268" /></a></p> <p>I asked Adam to make my crust since he’s really good at it and I didn’t feel like making one (and my lack of enthusiasm).  The pie itself was pretty simple. Just a lot of cooling and chilling and things like that. I really enjoyed licking the spoon too…it was yummy!<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-BLpxTN6nLrY/VHS0ThLCixI/AAAAAAAAKPE/NkpFct4E5vk/s1600-h/IMG_2056%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_2056" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_2056" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Il8N8MLUtiM/VHS0UOl1wUI/AAAAAAAAKPM/9kkKr3tYkdU/IMG_2056_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="204" height="271" /></a><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-nnnXXNAa5L8/VHS0Ue5pPpI/AAAAAAAAKPY/r0rvT6sQsjg/s1600-h/IMG_2057%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_2057" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_2057" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-nQCsI3ELMZA/VHS0U1lxbfI/AAAAAAAAKPc/dJFITsm8wmY/IMG_2057_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="204" height="271" /></a><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-TSxU9Djqd9s/VHS0VLCLY9I/AAAAAAAAKPo/k0hgVZlGTAE/s1600-h/IMG_2058%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_2058" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_2058" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-XcLeg7XMx90/VHS0Vqd6amI/AAAAAAAAKPs/bL_dyelwPn8/IMG_2058_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="204" height="271" /></a><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-HCGnz0-4Fn4/VHS0WGPX9tI/AAAAAAAAKP4/EYmB2FsGwDk/s1600-h/IMG_2060%25255B8%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_2060" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_2060" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-CWx0WyZMQsM/VHS0Wq_8TjI/AAAAAAAAKP8/aOkKU0TgWXw/IMG_2060_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="204" height="271" /></a></p> <p>When it was finally ready to eat I was pleasantly surprised how much it tasted like my grandmas go to Christmas dessert: Raspberry Fluff (insert grandma “do you know how expensive raspberries are getting? I may have not cooked the Jell-O as much as I should or got it hot enough, but it was still edible without making a huge mess and we all enjoy it!</p> <p>This week I reminded Adam it was his turn to make a pie and he’s on Ice Cream… I have a feeling we might be skipping this week since he’s already making pecan pies! Besides I’m pretty sure an ice cream pie would be perfect for Charlie’s Birthday week!</p> <p>Happy Thanksgiving!</p> A + Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17545663412937456171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594588611754082371.post-30341880045016577432014-11-06T08:29:00.001-05:002014-11-06T08:30:32.548-05:00Project Pie:Week 17<p>I got to chose the cream pie this week and my choice? </p> <p>S’more<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-VTsWWkRc3zc/VFt3rpSS2rI/AAAAAAAAKKo/3a9T6PlU3pM/s1600-h/IMG_1899%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1899" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1899" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-VC5lwq3UuPE/VFt3sDMtKOI/AAAAAAAAKKs/8fUxp2ZanBI/IMG_1899_thumb%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="182" /></a>It looked pretty easy to make so I tackled it one morning before I left on a business trip. </p> <p>I bought the crust (I know I’m such a cheater) And I planned to use the Hershey's bars Charlie got from trick or treating so there wasn’t much I needed to get.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-cbWZQiXtRMw/VFt3sRA-AWI/AAAAAAAAKK0/c2nEqd2NkJ4/s1600-h/IMG_1863%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1863" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1863" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-2tft1Lrd-Bg/VFt3sw-ZTNI/AAAAAAAAKK8/NYluQItYz3s/IMG_1863_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="204" height="271" /></a><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-FxMroTHNSj8/VFt3tFXTqWI/AAAAAAAAKLE/Xnd0N7wDPT8/s1600-h/IMG_1865%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1865" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1865" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-BROdM1qobvw/VFt3tiOC96I/AAAAAAAAKLM/-WexWrCvtbw/IMG_1865_thumb%25255B11%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="204" height="288" /></a></p> <p>Well of course when you think something will be quick and easy, It never is. First off one of my yokes broke. So I was trying to get yoke out of my whites. Second I realized as I was mixing in the vanilla pudding we had at the house the word “regular” was italicized and it made me think, what do they mean. Well one quick glance at my instant pudding mix box I realized that in 1978 they probably had a choice…cooktop pudding or instant. So 15 minutes later I’m still stirring and waiting for my mixture the thicken. In the end I figured I could deal with it when I got back from my trip and thicken it up with some tapioca.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-U_eLPgEBA3s/VFt3uGLL3BI/AAAAAAAAKLU/hihod9-CQ8s/s1600-h/IMG_1864%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1864" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1864" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-pjL541xNr1s/VFt3umWaUGI/AAAAAAAAKLg/3s3hCu8Kcag/IMG_1864_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>Flash forward 2 days I get home and the pudding is pretty think and chilled in my fridge. So I decide I’ll just use it and I assemble my pie and start to beat the egg whites. </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-T8DCJ7yMq10/VFt3vN6tWlI/AAAAAAAAKLo/ETO9PdRHDZQ/s1600-h/IMG_1893%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1893" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1893" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-fCvLW4GhrVE/VFt3vrLXwEI/AAAAAAAAKLs/51G8ZFAGZOo/IMG_1893_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-lIp8xz8SXsE/VFt3v7g-LsI/AAAAAAAAKL0/AOnksfc8JeA/s1600-h/IMG_1894%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1894" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1894" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-lyzqpzWLJEE/VFt3wWyxJ4I/AAAAAAAAKL8/awFs6MqSfvU/IMG_1894_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>And I’m beating and beating and beating. While I’m beating I see the Tips section for making meringue. 1. Use room temperature eggs (pulled mine right out of the fridge) 2. Any small amount of yoke could ruin the meringue (we all know how that went) <a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-vUBV9LJYy_A/VFt3w3P7jpI/AAAAAAAAKMI/j05FToVEDC0/s1600-h/IMG_1895%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1895" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1895" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-5SVkQ8ElnCg/VFt3xQ_y6MI/AAAAAAAAKMM/wjDYz0cY57c/IMG_1895_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>Finally after a good 20 min my whites formed stiff peaks and I was able to get the pie in the oven. Then I cooled it before I put it in the fridge to chill.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-mSRJ0_83Tt0/VFt3x8X0kQI/AAAAAAAAKMU/fas9UXEUjEw/s1600-h/IMG_1896%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1896" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1896" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-_jlqpYaIvPg/VFt3yChqjyI/AAAAAAAAKMc/zTVbDTpbDvg/IMG_1896_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-HbtaJGt7jJM/VFt3yj7arlI/AAAAAAAAKMo/vs3t7jpeEds/s1600-h/IMG_1898%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1898" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1898" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-2Lrf4MhBavA/VFt3zDTn06I/AAAAAAAAKMs/M63Scw6Fe9A/IMG_1898_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>Charlie went to bed and we cut into it looking forward to some gooey goodness. But the chocolate and the marshmallows hadn’t melted at all. And because there were only chocolate pieces some bites didn’t even have any. The pudding mix basically took over.  In the end I couldn’t finish mine and Adam though it was ok, just not the S’mores taste he wanted.</p> <p>So will we make it again? Maybe, but with a lot of tweaking!!</p> <p>Next week Adam is going to skip ahead so that Pumpkin Pie falls on Thanksgiving week.  </p> A + Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17545663412937456171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594588611754082371.post-11069885549531102672014-10-31T18:34:00.000-04:002014-10-31T18:34:00.228-04:00Happy Halloween<p>We’re off trick-or-treating with our little Elmo!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-JUWUP0oVtgc/VE47ej5pPcI/AAAAAAAAKIU/qKss_ChmxFQ/s1600-h/IMG_1760%25255B1%25255D%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1760[1]" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1760[1]" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-MXjqbqAOnKQ/VE47fARWisI/AAAAAAAAKIY/umbzSqloJug/IMG_1760%25255B1%25255D_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="404" /></a></p> <p>We hope you all have a safe, fun and candy filled night!</p> <p>BOO!!</p> <p>(and no I did not dress like this to go trick or treating with little kids!)</p> A + Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17545663412937456171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594588611754082371.post-55774594486245473052014-10-29T12:52:00.001-04:002014-10-29T12:58:37.410-04:00Project Pie: Week 16Wow. 16 weeks of pie and my pants still fit!<br />
This week brought us back to the beginning and fruit pies. Adam chose French Crunch Peach pie. <a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-iV6-qn9lyOk/VFEbJ3TzRYI/AAAAAAAAKIs/hZjRLj7o7BE/s1600-h/IMG_1780%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_1780" border="0" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/--FnUWP4PEU8/VFEbKVttWJI/AAAAAAAAKIw/8H1jkFgqfC8/IMG_1780_thumb%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" height="175" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_1780" width="404" /></a><br />
Peach pie is my all time 2nd favorite pie (behind blueberry) And this recipe is one for the books. It’s not as good as mom’s but it’s good! <br />
Of course he made the perfect crust.<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-YWOu-4Iffo4/VFEbKkHOJgI/AAAAAAAAKI8/qQG2HhEgnz8/s1600-h/IMG_1779%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_1779" border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-F3qZ1mnV-RU/VFEbLTWe0gI/AAAAAAAAKJE/LZHpmy1oJjQ/IMG_1779_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" height="537" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_1779" width="404" /></a><br />
Mixed it all and up and dumped it in.<br />
Charlie helped with the topping:<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-esgp071X4To/VFEbL6204sI/AAAAAAAAKJM/Bd6MUmFPDYA/s1600-h/IMG_1782%25255B8%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_1782" border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-kVjkRqkKPpc/VFEbMf7yNrI/AAAAAAAAKJU/Gr0pqjEiuNQ/IMG_1782_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" height="537" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_1782" width="404" /></a><br />

Baked it<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Q4eZMbbQA74/VFEbOzgZ03I/AAAAAAAAKJ8/TgQUMbXQzI8/s1600-h/IMG_1786%25255B11%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_1786" border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-22W3mI8TmWU/VFEbPnCjNxI/AAAAAAAAKKE/WILy5iv_gJo/IMG_1786_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" height="537" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_1786" width="404" /></a><br />
And ate it warm!<br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-M2eiqmckDUc/VFEbP4X0SxI/AAAAAAAAKKM/gw5RqMaV8I4/s1600-h/IMG_1787%25255B11%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_1787" border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-x8ZASJ8EkDw/VFEbQZB6M2I/AAAAAAAAKKQ/OQSKL28qurU/IMG_1787_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" height="537" style="background-image: none; border: 0px currentColor; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_1787" width="404" /></a><br />
mmm good!<br />
Crunch on top isn’t too overpowering and the egg gives it bit of a custard flavor, but it all works well together. It’s not too sweet so adding ice cream is a welcomed topping. So my dad picked out a mocha pie. I nixed that since adam won’t touch anything coffee and decided on Banana Split pie. Dad was fine with the choice.<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-5VYMhFcyGuA/VE46xtk7UgI/AAAAAAAAKG0/CkjWXzzCzm0/s1600-h/IMG_1723%25255B1%25255D%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_1723[1]" border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-8bEI1QKFIxY/VE46yW6Bt1I/AAAAAAAAKG4/OWpnxc1D6G4/IMG_1723%25255B1%25255D_thumb%25255B8%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" height="218" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_1723[1]" width="404" /></a><br />
First thing, I didn’t feel like making a pie crust so I bought a gram cracker crust. The rest was pretty simple. Just a lot of waiting for things to freeze.<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-2FooHMhMI2U/VE46y0qR8YI/AAAAAAAAKHE/qeSXf6t94E0/s1600-h/IMG_1717%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_1717" border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-3n2T-KbPgQY/VE46zdrZeQI/AAAAAAAAKHI/TZoglehQQn0/IMG_1717_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" height="537" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_1717" width="404" /></a><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-VWmtI9j1BWU/VE46zy0OySI/AAAAAAAAKHU/cC_7Ha9pPQo/s1600-h/IMG_1718%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_1718" border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-MLDWW_Hau3c/VE460d1FAZI/AAAAAAAAKHY/yU0bxSsCWvY/IMG_1718_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" height="537" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_1718" width="404" /></a><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-kyWZxPG-fZE/VE4607zg7mI/AAAAAAAAKHk/MK0ZXidV4rY/s1600-h/IMG_1719%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_1719" border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-MTaWCllkeN8/VE461pTO-iI/AAAAAAAAKHo/um5teuMFL1M/IMG_1719_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" height="537" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_1719" width="404" /></a><br />
When it came time to do the chocolate topping (at 10pm) I found out that in fact I didn’t have a bag of marshmallows like I thought I did. So we just used Hersey's syrup. (I know I’m really failing on this easy pie)<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-26uArdXVMJc/VE462DUXBeI/AAAAAAAAKH0/bRgBhS5E0Fg/s1600-h/IMG_1720%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_1720" border="0" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-yB_veHrnGMI/VE462ucRrFI/AAAAAAAAKH4/Rl_f8Z7nIkY/IMG_1720_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" height="537" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_1720" width="404" /></a><br />
But mom and dad both liked it! <br />
Dad didn’t want to share. Adam and I thought it was ok. It was easy, but it won’t be going on the “top 10” list.A + Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17545663412937456171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594588611754082371.post-70772243382300549002014-10-20T12:36:00.001-04:002014-10-20T12:36:56.983-04:00Recycled Bathrobe<p>I had this short red fuzzy bathrobe someone had given me as a gift that I never used. I was ready to just throw in the towel. But by Tuesday I had got some sleep and didn’t want to disappoint Adam (who was salivating for pie). And when I found this recipe in our book for a pie that didn’t have a crust I was all over it!</p> <p>Miracle Custard Pie:</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-9HY2bBiNn7w/VDbDs9hSPsI/AAAAAAAAKA8/H4twkHykVhk/s1600-h/IMG_1587%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1587" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1587" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-J9nJ-Nij99c/VDbDtV5LLDI/AAAAAAAAKBA/d7Dul67aTeM/IMG_1587_thumb%25255B9%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="118" /></a></p> <p>As you can see…no crust! And you make it in a blender! It took me about 5 minutes to put all the ingratiates in.<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-vsZfLRSUXzk/VDbDt-T6qXI/AAAAAAAAKBI/whWFxvaaRK4/s1600-h/IMG_1588%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1588" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1588" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-fu7lJNbhyhQ/VDbDucSYkwI/AAAAAAAAKBQ/5_nntruxT9Y/IMG_1588_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>10 seconds later…<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-O3PDmTS3V1o/VDbDvO4Q2BI/AAAAAAAAKBc/6id-FaXL758/s1600-h/IMG_1589%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1589" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1589" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-5vpec5CZvTo/VDbDvyCbCBI/AAAAAAAAKBg/H1fU8tVrDZw/IMG_1589_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>I mixed the coconut right in the blender (with a spoon) then into the pan it went. Adam and I thought it was ok. It definitely tastes like custard. And that’s about it. We don’t love it, but we don’t hate it. I think with some tweaking (adding a little flavor) it could be something special and an easy go-to-pie. </p> A + Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17545663412937456171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594588611754082371.post-15909724982355084802014-10-07T14:58:00.001-04:002014-10-09T13:22:37.565-04:0048 hours in New England<p>This past weekend my friend Tara and I traveled to New Hampshire to see one of our dear friends get married.</p> <p>It was a lot of traveling but a whole lot of fun and worth the 8 hours on a plan and 4 hours in a very small rental.</p> <p>Jared and Maggie got married in the small town of New London NH. the reception was in the even smaller town of Andover at the Bluewater Lodge. The lodge is where we stayed and it was great! Upstairs there were bunk rooms with some bunks 3 high! <a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-SLKnTprBP9I/VDQ3r2sipNI/AAAAAAAAJ90/iCfE0YTGL3A/s1600-h/IMG_15614.jpg"><img title="IMG_1561" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1561" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-RwG-oJDsdnc/VDQ3svgnc3I/AAAAAAAAJ94/99bPSnoe7nc/IMG_1561_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>We got in LATE Friday night and stayed up even later playing games and catching up. Saturday we went Apple Picking! It may have been raining and overcast, but I was not leaving NH without getting some apples. Even some of my Florida friends tagged along for their first time. They were impressed. A fire was lit or I should say tried to be lit outside and I sat with some of my best friends from grad school and discussed our lives and the direction they have gone in the last 8 years.  It was a perfect day. <a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Po8Gm4Y2AJg/VDQ3zuJKUWI/AAAAAAAAJ_k/Q_kiFS2Sbd4/s1600-h/IMG_15494.jpg"><img title="IMG_1549" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1549" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-i-Yabcq0M5g/VDQ30rNzhYI/AAAAAAAAJ_s/yzVl_EJ0xxc/IMG_1549_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="304" /></a><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-NeIaXw9WTQs/VDQ31Ayp17I/AAAAAAAAJ_0/PQiyKP_KA-g/s1600-h/IMG_15514.jpg"><img title="IMG_1551" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1551" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-Qm-3GwyE0GY/VDQ31wwku1I/AAAAAAAAJ_8/nyoM5wn_yag/IMG_1551_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-wvRIfvp5LCA/VDbEWYWa5tI/AAAAAAAAKCs/4M0i9R5V-CI/s1600-h/fire%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img title="fire" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="fire" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-KGqWLd7PvKU/VDbEW35jf3I/AAAAAAAAKCw/jQm24AJ-sJ8/fire_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="304" /></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-eHx7-P42EYc/VDQ32U_bkmI/AAAAAAAAKAA/-xCHONWn1eI/s1600-h/IMG_15584.jpg"><font color="#4f81bd">The view from my bunk:</font><img title="IMG_1558" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1558" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-PLAO4Bek2kk/VDQ32wl87PI/AAAAAAAAKAM/7P-C4KhFYEw/IMG_1558_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>Sunday after cleaning up we made the 30 min drive to see Jared and Maggie's house before we hit up the local pancake house for a much needed greasy breakfast. With full bellies Tara and I headed back to Boston to catch our flight. we were exhausted, hung over and ready to go home to our sweet girls (and boys). <a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-vSk8oIn4Zfk/VDQ33ghjCNI/AAAAAAAAKAU/sLP1AnJ_j6k/s1600-h/IMG_15624.jpg"><img title="IMG_1562" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1562" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-cM_3CSlMz38/VDQ34f0yrNI/AAAAAAAAKAY/9kogMp8BKiM/IMG_1562_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="304" /></a></p> <p>This was the first time in a long time I had taken a trip by myself. While I missed both Adam and Charlie it was nice to be only responsible for myself. Luckily Erin had a 10 month old boy I was able to snuggle.  <a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-myJ_VIdfQ9I/VDQ34jPKw6I/AAAAAAAAKAk/8hZyt005VUE/s1600-h/IMG_15294.jpg"><img title="IMG_1529" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1529" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-nryhHDDYXW4/VDQ35SKMdYI/AAAAAAAAKAs/a_iJGHFLejc/IMG_1529_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>It was also nice to take a trip with my best friend. We haven’t done that in a long time. We may be older and married, but we proved we are still a whole lot of fun and can still hang with the guys!!</p> A + Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17545663412937456171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594588611754082371.post-47353098391615208802014-10-02T08:19:00.001-04:002014-10-02T08:19:35.682-04:00Project Pie: Week 12<p>This week for his cream pie Adam chose Lemon Meringue. And boy was it an improvement on the lemon Alaska. Even his dad, who was here visiting, said it reminded him of his mothers and brought him back. <a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-GxuBDDCRE7g/VC1CzOh1dwI/AAAAAAAAJ8U/LfqcStQDb_c/s1600-h/IMG_1484%25255B1%25255D%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1484[1]" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1484[1]" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-6obFZl11YTI/VC1CzvAYkKI/AAAAAAAAJ8c/qzpBjCpvJkk/IMG_1484%25255B1%25255D_thumb%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="270" /></a></p> <p>By know you should know what making a pie looks like, so we’re cutting back on the photos unless there’s something tricky going on. <a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-JsjxIT6vRmI/VC1C0E8ATKI/AAAAAAAAJ8k/qWf8F10jh0Y/s1600-h/IMG_1483%25255B1%25255D%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1483[1]" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1483[1]" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-bIZbEUSaguc/VC1C0od47wI/AAAAAAAAJ8o/L1IlGr2dGt8/IMG_1483%25255B1%25255D_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a>The one thing that probably could have improved on the presentation was another egg white for the meringue. You want the the meringue to seal with the crust and Adam didn’t have quite enough to get a good seal. If this happens, its not ruined, but the pie will start to separate from the meringue and it’s not as pretty.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-G_2f_xqPDVM/VC1C1Gdr18I/AAAAAAAAJ8w/9qDbnL_XwK4/s1600-h/IMG_1488%25255B1%25255D%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1488[1]" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1488[1]" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-fjZZBkOYzN8/VC1C1qJM7CI/AAAAAAAAJ84/ddxLU8jpEqI/IMG_1488%25255B1%25255D_thumb%25255B8%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="440" /></a></p> <p>But again…it was a great pie. It didn’t take him to long to make, but it does have a chilling period so you do have to wait a bit to eat it.</p> <p>Next week is custard and I’ve got my eye on a few…</p> <p><em>(NOTE: If you’ve been following along and want the recipes for the past few pies I’ve went back and updated the posts to include them)</em></p> A + Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17545663412937456171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594588611754082371.post-77157723365590881932014-09-25T09:16:00.000-04:002014-10-02T08:20:46.320-04:00Project Pie: Week 11<p>We’re back at the beginning of the book and where I started: Fruit Pies. Being as it’s Fall everywhere else in the country except Florida, I thought I’d make an apple pie.</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-gmPcLPjkfVc/VC1DGxFTm2I/AAAAAAAAJ9E/sVgJmLpuDhM/s1600-h/IMG_1485%25255B1%25255D%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1485[1]" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1485[1]" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-6LRWKKlqu5U/VC1DHSzipAI/AAAAAAAAJ9I/H4-hkQtFZ_o/IMG_1485%25255B1%25255D_thumb%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="180" /></a></p> <p>I chose to go with Gala apples, after of course consulting with mom on which apples where best.  I made the crust following the books recipe for a double pie. I’m still not sold on it. It just doesn’t roll out nice for me and I find it kind of flavorless. I might have to go back to my tried and true recipe. <a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-PPpqWM7h-QI/VCLD6BTbcVI/AAAAAAAAJ6k/uhFrBUnhYfA/s1600-h/IMG_1458%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1458" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1458" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-bh6tSSP5O4I/VCLD63NXCBI/AAAAAAAAJ6s/vAb8wmymDDY/IMG_1458_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>To cut the apples I used my fancy schmancey apple-corer-peeler machine. Charlie wasn’t as impressed as her daddy had been when he first saw it, but in her defense she was sick and mommy was making her help make a pie.<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-mn3vAMhrxZw/VCLD7fskd3I/AAAAAAAAJ60/bhU2H9VWdCs/s1600-h/IMG_1460%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1460" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1460" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-uw7eVXXsvLM/VCLD70BaFzI/AAAAAAAAJ68/H4o5ujzRHuw/IMG_1460_thumb%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="270" /></a></p> <p>I mixed all the dry ingredients first then added them to the apples and it all went into my first crust. <a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-6W7Kljt5UV4/VCLD8c2TmOI/AAAAAAAAJ7E/4nzymlLhTEQ/s1600-h/IMG_1459%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1459" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1459" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-i-sZmyMS1BE/VCLD9N6UytI/AAAAAAAAJ7I/SOGhWJjNKjM/IMG_1459_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>The top crust was a hot mess and I really need to take a class in fluting. And not the kind you play-I mastered that in High School.  For some reason (I’m blaming the crappy crust) I can never get my edge nice and pretty. But in the end I guess all that matters is if it tastes good, right?<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-wZgim0GwM1U/VCLD9gAB8JI/AAAAAAAAJ7U/PjjAiSw-dJk/s1600-h/IMG_1461%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1461" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1461" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-xU8j1yxpQIY/VCLD-AmHHVI/AAAAAAAAJ7c/r9xdfp6mm3I/IMG_1461_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>The pie was tasty,not as good as moms, but it was good.  It might have been the apples (they are so flavorless down here!) or maybe it needed more cin/sugar.  </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-RxCDIuvbRFU/VCLD-3AzMlI/AAAAAAAAJ7k/UWFaw92DgIk/s1600-h/IMG_1462%25255B8%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1462" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1462" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-uI4WHkBopZ4/VCLD_qj2GQI/AAAAAAAAJ7o/xssccmrCJz8/IMG_1462_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a> I think there is room to improve, but in the mean time…Apple Pie for breakfast!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-VZz1-SnQoE0/VCLD_8DUnDI/AAAAAAAAJ70/z8CSPskx5DQ/s1600-h/IMG_1463%25255B8%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1463" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1463" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-SMiGlQLBC-0/VCLEAsG1GjI/AAAAAAAAJ74/UdiD5NtYnGY/IMG_1463_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> A + Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17545663412937456171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594588611754082371.post-68219798452201882252014-09-22T10:45:00.000-04:002014-10-02T08:26:21.278-04:00Fifth Year in Pictures<p>Wow. (don’t even get me started on the numnuts who redid the concrete and forgot about a proper slope!) So with all that rain all summer long our door mats get a beating and don’t last very long. </p> <p>So when they recently painted the building, and the stupid painters just tossed our mat on the ground at the bottom of the step I looked at the sad bristles and decided it was time for a new one. But this time I didn’t want to shell out another $40 for one that wasn’t going to last. So I recruited my favorite handy man to make one for me based on some I’ve seen. </p> <p>We went to the Depot one Friday night and purchased 2x2 wolmanized posts (for railing) @ .95 a piece and had them cut down to size.  Then we found some threaded rod, nuts and acorns and washers.  Lastly we picked out a stain. (In hindsight now I wish I would have remembered that they just painted the concrete dark brown-it used to be light gray)</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-1L0LmgmJY0I/VBraQ_ECJnI/AAAAAAAAJ1E/yZ3blg4C2P8/s1600-h/IMG_1356%25255B1%25255D%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1356[1]" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1356[1]" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-oIRtLw_ll8U/VBraRi5YpFI/AAAAAAAAJ1M/Fmrffxjfq6I/IMG_1356%25255B1%25255D_thumb%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="495" /></a></p> <p>Adam Drilled three holes in each piece of wood.<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-0_gz0t3xFCc/VBraSAG6dDI/AAAAAAAAJ1Q/5l9QwpSbgfo/s1600-h/IMG_1357%25255B1%25255D%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1357[1]" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1357[1]" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-lI5vJqmoizQ/VBraSyyzD2I/AAAAAAAAJ1c/PXZpsrxu5wM/IMG_1357%25255B1%25255D_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p> Stained them over the course of a few days. </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-1vPlcK-AVK8/VBraTuDHDGI/AAAAAAAAJ1k/5AIGbcTtUg8/s1600-h/IMG_1358%25255B1%25255D%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1358[1]" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1358[1]" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-bXzPB-4Dr7c/VBraUHvqX1I/AAAAAAAAJ1o/ni89dsm2XBM/IMG_1358%25255B1%25255D_thumb%25255B8%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="348" /></a></p> <p>Then we began assembling the door mat. </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-qCLh59RzV9w/VBraUqM92hI/AAAAAAAAJ1w/27d33rwZbg0/s1600-h/IMG_1414%25255B1%25255D%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1414[1]" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1414[1]" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-h1AC0iRcwI8/VBraVYIr9BI/AAAAAAAAJ18/NHH0mibYVN0/IMG_1414%25255B1%25255D_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>Even Charlie got to help! I think it will be great and hopefully last a  long time! Dirt can fall through and so can rain. And when there is a puddle there this will lift us up 2” so that we’re not always standing in a pool of water before we enter the house. </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-2_zXl0RUkWI/VBrqnbGq9qI/AAAAAAAAJ3k/4gljj2jXznQ/s1600-h/IMG_1429%25255B1%25255D%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1429[1]" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1429[1]" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-TwEkMbJQCnc/VBrqnwmGduI/AAAAAAAAJ3o/lBDQ33Unz3c/IMG_1429%25255B1%25255D_thumb%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="270" /></a></p> <p>In total I‘d guess the project cost us around $30 and I’d love to do another one (when we have more doors) and play with stain/paint/pattern. We both can’t believe it’s been five years. We’re happy, healthy and still in love. Not much more we could ask for without being selfish.</p> <p>No big plans for our anniversary. Adam is working tonight, tomorrow and Sunday. But we don’t need a big what to do to celebrate. We will do something special when we have the time. In the mean time we’ll just keep enjoying life!</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-BaWbN8vcAl4/VBxtJumyolI/AAAAAAAAJ50/lZ9nlsp0xvs/s1600-h/wine%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="wine" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="wine" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-KUhvAjpergU/VBxtKYTmCvI/AAAAAAAAJ54/U0-TDDXsz7g/wine_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="271" /></a></p> A + Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17545663412937456171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594588611754082371.post-22036074959072190082014-09-19T09:18:00.000-04:002014-10-02T08:24:07.093-04:00Project Pie: Week 10!<p>This weeks Pie post is going to be kind of light. Adam made his Ice Cream pie over two day late in the evening when I was engulfed in season 5 of Weeds. <br />For his choice Adam chose Alaska Lemon pie. </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-WopgVR6pZUc/VC1D5PfR__I/AAAAAAAAJ9U/YY8Mcglj0dM/s1600-h/IMG_1487%25255B1%25255D%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1487[1]" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1487[1]" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-dGc6Tp9O0-k/VC1D5W378zI/AAAAAAAAJ9Y/Si0EkzNI2Hw/IMG_1487%25255B1%25255D_thumb%25255B5%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="271" /></a></p> <p>First he made a typical crust.</p> <p>The moved on to melting stuff:<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-BXNQrrRocBs/VBsFg2e9wSI/AAAAAAAAJ4M/IqoX7-hPrPw/s1600-h/IMG_1415%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1415" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1415" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ToVnz4ZO3Cg/VBsFhWtu7JI/AAAAAAAAJ4Q/jnsYvpTnEqQ/IMG_1415_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>You add melted ice cream, cooled filling, freeze then top with meringue then bake.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-cwtMid7EEm0/VBsFh1GsCII/AAAAAAAAJ4c/iA5nHgwSAaQ/s1600-h/IMG_1424%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1424" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1424" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-YHejQVb6iEo/VBsFiedcH9I/AAAAAAAAJ4g/FrvJR_Duip8/IMG_1424_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>Cooling fully, I think, is key. (something he didn't do) I think it’s best to add the melted ice cream, Freeze, then add the cooled filling, freeze, then the meringue. But hey, we’re still learning.</p> <p>It was difficult to cut. And kind of taffy like. The flavors were all there-think lemon meringue with ice cream. </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-mD6kmIzhNl4/VBsFi7yMzXI/AAAAAAAAJ4s/aEtXTEGvKc0/s1600-h/IMG_1425%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1425" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1425" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-pY8oUPpVjlc/VBsFjdUIU8I/AAAAAAAAJ4w/Z97esWoOvdg/IMG_1425_thumb%25255B8%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="306" /></a></p> <p>It is not in Adam’s top favorites, but I think it has promise.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Mt6sg47HhBQ/VBsFj9gKXFI/AAAAAAAAJ48/gwTrlM-PNWo/s1600-h/IMG_1427%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1427" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1427" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-vYxM511Cagk/VBsFkpNG5wI/AAAAAAAAJ5E/n4XlIE1ATbw/IMG_1427_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> A + Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17545663412937456171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594588611754082371.post-34184389038608247632014-09-18T10:27:00.000-04:002014-09-18T10:27:00.869-04:00City Mouse-Country Mouse<p>It’s no secret that I’m not happy with our living situation. And this was the case long before Charlie came along. </p> <p>I bought my condo when I was in school and never expected to stay longer than 3 maybe 4 years in it. Well it’s been 11.</p> <p>We have two dogs in our condo. I have always been a believer in that dogs need a yard. They do not belong in apartments. Well unfortunately Adam didn’t share these values and when we got married…the dogs moved in. But they’re used it having lived in apartments for most of their lives.</p> <p>I grew up in a house that had 4 acres of woods to play in. I played outside a lot. I went for walks and climbed trees and played on my swing set and in the sand box. I ran circles around the house with my dog Ginger. </p> <p>It’s probably no surprise that I want the same for Charlie. I want her to be able to go outside and play. And recently she wants the same thing and the other day she asked for it. </p> <p>“Pay Ousigh? Pay Ousigh” As she motioned toward the door my heart about broke in two. There really is no place for us to go out and play at our complex and it’s 5 million degrees outside.  And I was tired and not feeling good. But I looked at her sweet face and rallied. </p> <p>“Ok, I said “let’s go. Let’s go see the fishes at the aquarium” (bad choice of words…note to self don’t say fishes unless you have goldfish to provide)</p> <p>So I loaded up my girl and headed to the air conditioned aquarium that is free in the month of September for Zoo members. She loved it . She ran from tank to tank, oo’d and ah’d and I enjoyed watching her explore the beauty of the oceans.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-VEG-CWqaVw8/VBhPJXWv11I/AAAAAAAAJyE/UpKbBGPmaGo/s1600-h/IMG_1392%25255B1%25255D%25255B12%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_1392[1]" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="IMG_1392[1]" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-YKHpHReVakQ/VBhPKdNvbKI/AAAAAAAAJyM/G6cHp7qJI6c/IMG_1392%25255B1%25255D_thumb%25255B9%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="537" /></a></p> <p>When we got home and were headed up the stairs to our condo I looked my happy girl and thought: You know, there are benefits to being a city mouse. I may not have acres of grass and woods for her to play in, but I can take her to an aquarium, a top rated zoo, multiple children's museums, splash parks and city parks any day I want. Growing up I only got to do those things on family vacation or class trips. They were BIG deals. The things I took for granted growing up (and wanted to get away from) are the things she’ll look forward too and what she takes for granted will be what some children only get to do once a year. Heck I could take her to Disney World every weekend (if I fell on my head and knocked my brain loose!) </p> <p>So yes, I may long for the childhood I had for her, but I have to realize that what she’s getting is what I dreamed for as a little girl. </p> <p>Hopefully someday I’ll get to give her a yard to run in, but in the mean time the city of Tampa will be our playground and it’s a pretty cool one! </p> A + Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17545663412937456171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4594588611754082371.post-22417615282930415422014-09-16T11:54:00.001-04:002014-09-16T13:51:52.452-04:00PeePee Time!Last Thursday Charlie started telling Ms. Jones when she had to go to the bathroom. Thursday and Friday she had only one accident after her self proclamation of going to the bathroom. Ms. Jones said “let’s do it!” <br />
I tired all weekend. <br />
“Pee Pee Charlie?” <br />
“No”<br />
“Charlie let’s go potty” <br />
“No”<br />
I set timers, I rushed her to the bathroom at the slightest crotch grab, I even went on the little potty myself!<br />
Nothing worked. <br />
All weekend long she SOAKED PullUps, training pants and diapers. The girl would not go in the potty.<br />
On Monday Charlie had no accidents at daycare. She went all day on the potty. She told Ms. Jones "Jones! Pee Pee" and ran to the bathroom.<br />
When we got home…she pooped in her pull up, which then fell out on the floor when I took her potty not knowing she had went.<br />
Then she peed through her reusable swim diaper.<br />
She soaked her training pants (and piddled on the floor) I made her wipe it up, which she loved since she loves to clean.<br />
Finally I packed up all her diapers and told her no more diapers and replaced their spot with her training pants.<br />
She went commando until bath time.<br />
I had to get her soap from my shower so I told her to go pee pee while the tub filled and I set her on her potty.<br />
I came back in and she was trying to climb into the tub.<br />
But….<br />
there was pee in the potty!!!!!!!!<br />
<br />
I high fived her, I cheered and clapped and gave her a sticker.<br />
She looked at me like I was nuts.<br />
<br />
But she finally went for me! (kind of..i wasn't in the room to witness it.) <br />
<br />
Maybe she just doesn’t want to go in front of me. Or maybe she’s just defiant and likes to disobey her mom. (I have no idea where she’d get that from <img alt="Winking smile" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-winkingsmile" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-I-24nQjLCxs/VBhdKTIgoCI/AAAAAAAAJyY/4jlsD784zPc/wlEmoticon-winkingsmile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800" />) <br />
I’m just happy she finally went at home. <br />
I’m glad she is so successful at daycare. <br />
And I’m hoping that she will continue to progress at home. Fingers crossed she’ll go again tonight!<br />
But secretly there is a part of me that was so sad to pack up her diapers. My baby is growing up! NOOOOOOOO! But I guess this is just the first of many moments I’ll have to go through. That’s life! And I’m sure there are many more exciting adventures I’ll get to go through with her!A + Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17545663412937456171noreply@blogger.com0
